Curriculum Vitae

Areas of Expertise

I teach many of our curriculum and assessment courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level and have taught other courses in special education, supervised field experiences, etc.  I have written many grants that have been funded with a focus on teacher recruitment, retention and mentoring of beginning teachers.  Much of my research has been utilizing best practices in instructional strategies, assessment and integration of technology.

Teaching Philosophy

I view my role of instructor as one of guiding and facilitating student learning.  Student engagement is part of the learning process where all students have a voice.  Course assignments are opportunities for success; students are engaged in various activities, discussions, and reflections of learning. Because students have diverse learning styles and utilize multiple modalities such as auditory, visual and kinesthetic.  I teach for mastery of concepts where students demonstrate the application of the course content.  You are a valuable member to the learning community; when you participate and give your best, the learning is richer.  I want and expect that each one of you will be successful; please let me know if you have specific needs in order to be successful.  Our job is not an easy job, but when we work with students our impact can make a positive difference that will last a lifetime.

Outside Interests

I enjoy gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends and serving in my church community.
