Areas of Expertise

Teacher Preparation, Curriculum and Instruction, Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy, Adult Learning, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education.

Teaching Philosophy

Teaching and learning provide a collaborative engagement. In my classes I create communities of learners where through an open dialogue of discovery students develop a sense of connectedness. Through my teaching I facilitate critical thinking and practice a social constructivist philosophy. I value the rich contributions students bring to our university. I appreciate that we come together from many different cultures and experiences. I am grateful for the diverse perspectives we share about the most important social and educational issues of our time. Most importantly, I celebrate the outstanding work our pre-service candidates, current teachers, and counselors do in our community.

Outside Interests

I celebrate my relationships with my precious family and dear friends. I enjoy time with our many pets, and I volunteer with SNIPSA, a local rescue organization. I love to cook and try new recipes. I am always up for a new adventure and I love to travel. I am an avid reader, I can easily get lost in a great book.
