Teaching Philosophy

I embrace a theory and practice of teaching from place. From the literal spaces I share with students to our imagined geographies, I contend that place provides the metaphorical and methodological means to cultivate effective learning communities, in and out of the classroom, especially among diverse populations. As an instructor, I work to facilitate immediate and life-long learning through a recognition of the embodied realities that ground and construct identity and education. By acknowledging, exploring, and questioning our literal and figurative “places” in the world and more specifically the educational institution we share, this pedagogical approach makes knowledge and skills tangible and transferable, providing a pathway to address social (in)justice.

Outside Interests

Beyond the university, I enjoy being in nature, walking city streets, exploring local coffee shops, dabbling in photography, trying new recipes, and spending time with family.
