OLLU student, mother and entrepreneur becomes published author
Puntwida Trezvant, MEd, current OLLU student, mother and entrepreneur can now add published author to her list of accomplishments.
Trezvant is the author of “When the Sky is Blue” and “Before the Bell Rings” two self-help books, which were recently released, designed for those in the workplace and who lead classrooms. Each book begins its chapters with a Bible verse and directs the reader toward meditation and encourages them to record their thoughts at the end of each chapter. By the end, the reflection has taken the reader through a step-by-step examination of how to deal with the challenges of the workplace or how to prepare for the school year.
The self-examination process encourages productivity and success, and Trezvant says writing the books took a lot of time, dedication, self-discipline and openness.
The biblical foundation of the books reflects Trezvant’s strong faith, which she notes helped her through the process of writing each book. She says she had to be “open to accept the things that come to me from God.” Trezvant also says that her family and friends played a crucial role in inspiring the content of the books.
An avid proponent of education at all levels; Trezvant is pursuing a second master’s degree in human sciences with a specialization in sociology and leadership at OLLU. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan. and a MEd with a specialization in curriculum and instruction from Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss. Trezvant taught elementary and middle school for 15 years and also spent five years teaching at the post-secondary level.
She says that she chose to attend OLLU because the convenience offered by the University meets her needs. “I have a very busy schedule but I still wanted to go back to school. I loved the fact that OLLU offered an online program because I don’t have the time to be on campus,” Trezvant said.
In addition to raising her daughter, writing and schoolwork, Trezvant is also the founder of Reach and Teach Association. Founded in 2010, the Houston-based association provides educational tips and tools for adult learners through seminars and workshops at organizations across the country. According to the Association’s website, their mission is “to develop successful, well-rounded individuals.” Trezvant says, “the presentations are often tailored to meet the needs of the specific organizations, but most of them follow the central theme that the ‘sky is the limit.’”
During the same year, she opened Trezvant Academy, a small private school, with her mother Linda. The school serves students Pre-K – 12th grade and boasts a dual credit program with the Lone Star College System that has students as young as 11 taking college-level courses.
Trezvant shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. She continues writing and plans to pursue a PhD soon after graduating with the class of 2013. Her newest book “It’s All About You!” will be released soon.
