2013 Spring happenings on the OLLU campus

The OLLU campus has been buzzing with activity throughout the spring semester. Here are a few of the highlights:

2013 Literary Festival
OLLU's annual Literary Festival was a weeklong series of literary events presented by the English Department and featured renowned poets, scholars and authors. This year’s festival, "All the World's a Stage," featured President Obama's 2013 inauguration day poet Richard Blanco, authors Antonya Nelson and Sandra Cisneros, and comic book creator David Liss.

Richard Blanco read from his new poetry collection, "Looking for the Gulf Motel," Other events included a faculty reading; a reading by author festival headliner, Antonya Nelson; and the drama production, "All the World's A Stage," in the 24th Street Theater.

Center for Mexican American Studies and Research annual conference
The 10th annual Center for Mexican American Studies and Research conference, "Higher Education: Cultural Issues and Cultural Studies," was held April 4-5. The conference included undergraduate and graduate student research presentations as well as special guest lecturers and a faculty and student panel.

Center for Women and OLLU students advocating for the Catholic Church
The Center for Women in Church and Society, along with OLLU students, joined the San Antonio Archdiocesan Delegation and other Catholics from around Texas during "Catholic Faith in Action Advocacy Day 2013" in Austin on April 9. The rally, hosted by the Texas Bishops at the State Capitol, promoted the Church's values to the 83rd Texas Legislature.

Mizuumi-Con 6 brought Anime fans to OLLU
More than 2,400 fans of Anime, gaming and Japanese culture descended on OLLU's campus during Mizuumi-Con 6, OLLU's annual Anime convention on March 23. Attendees enjoyed cosplay contests, tabletop and console gaming, discussion panels with famous Anime voice actors and many other activities during the Convention.
