For the first time in history, the OLLU men's soccer team earned the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) title after beating the University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) by a score of 3-2. The Saints, which along with the University's volleyball team, kicked off intercollegiate athletics in 2007, made it to the finals in 2009, but lost to UTB 1-2. The Saints have won just one game against UTB in seven previous matchups.

As the winner of the conference, the Saints earned a bye to the semifinals of the RRAC conference tournament that was hosted by Texas Wesleyan University. In that game, they beat Texas Wesleyan University 2-0 to capture the RRAC tournament title and a berth in the national tournament.

The 2012 team is the first at OLLU to win both the Red River Athletic Conference regular season title and the Conference Tournament title.

The Saints traveled to Los Angeles to take on Concordia University-Irvine in the opening round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men’s Soccer National Championships. Concordia scored a goal with seven minutes left in the game to end the Saints dream of qualifying for the final Sweet 16 round.

Head Coach Shane Hurley said, "The men played with an admirable amount of determination and discipline in a very tight game with a top flight competitor. The 2012 team was simply historic because of those two factors alone. They have set the bar high for our future soccer teams to beat."
