OLLU will hold its inaugural San Antonio Private Schools Tennis Coaches Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 29, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The event is presented by OLLU Head Tennis Coach, Sal Castillo.

Castillo became coach in 2008, when the University began its intercollegiate tennis program through the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). OLLU is the only local member of the NAIA. In addition to being Head Coach of the OLLU Men's and Women's Tennis Teams, he also has a considerable playing and teaching record.

He is the only player in the history of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to have completed a doubles Gold Slam, winning all four national USTA titles (Hard-Court, Clay Court, Grass Court and Indoor) with four different partners in the same year.  He has also represented the United States in Senior Davis Cup (over 35 years old) on 12 occasions and been on three world championship teams.

As a teacher, three of his students have won Texas 5-A singles titles, two students were collegiate All-Americans with one winning back to back, NCAA D-2 women's singles titles.

This year’s workshop will focus on how to get players competition-ready with limited time and resources. In a series of hands-on court demonstrations, coaches will go through:

Beginner to advanced stroke progressions
Court positioning
Basic strategy

Coach Castillo will finish his presentation with a question/answer session at which time refreshments and snacks will be provided for all attendees.
