Acclaimed artist Jesse Trevino and television producer Cassandra Lazenby are returning to their alma mater -- Our Lady of the Lake University -- to help launch “Best of the West,” the University’s new Fiesta event that will feature a variety of food, music and art from the city’s proud West Side.

Trevino (Class of 1974) and Lazenby (Class of 2006) are honorary co-chairs of the inaugural extravaganza which will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 22, an event that promises to attract visitors from across the city with proceeds going toward student scholarships.

“It is important to me to be connected to people who were here when I attended school and people who are here now celebrating Fiesta,” Trevino said. “I did the first official Fiesta poster in 1981. So when it comes to Fiesta, I feel like a very big part of it.”

“Best of the West” will be held on the east side of campus. Admission is $8 per adult and $4 per child. Each wristband sold entitles a guest to taste food at three booths. Food will be provided by Bake Broil and Brew Crew, Cheesy Jane’s, Dillon’s Louisiana Famous Hot Dogs, Gallo Pizzeria, RoMo’s Café, Rusty Bucket BBQ and Sabor Colombiano on Wheels.

Music will be provided by Cats Don’t Sleep, Conjuncto Babiz, Elora, Ernie Garabay, I Ching Gatos, Mariachi OLLUtlan and Westside Horns. Entertainment for kids will feature a Martial Arts demonstration, a performance by Rhodes Middle School cheerleaders, three puppet shows, an arts and crafts table, a cascarones booth, a live animal interaction booth and a cotton candy/snow cone/popcorn booth.

Featured artists who will have works on display include Sandra Griffin, Eddie Chavez, Blas and Rita Hernandez and OLLU students.

Fiesta medals will also be on sale during the event for $6.
